Title: pruning fruit trees

 hi all can anyone tell me if ok to prune a apple and pear tree this time of year ? pear tree has fruit on apple tree none for some reason,was full of apples last year cheers

I wouldn't recommend it!

Many established trees become biennial bearers... loads one year very few or none the next...

What sort of pruning do you want to do? If you want to cut back into the old wood, do it in winter unless you have a plum. Summer pruning is good, but you only cut this year's growth. At this time of year you can take off unwanted shoots, but that's about all. The apple may well be a biennial bearer; you could try taking off half the young fruit so it doesn't strain itself, and has the energy to produce again next year.
