Post by: nippie on May 24, 2008, 14:38:52
Can you freeze quiche?
If you can, how do you wrap it before freezing?
How long can you leave it in the freezer?
Ta in advance  :)

I freeze quiche, but then I freeze everything!  I cut it into individual portions and freeze it in small sandwich bags or clingfilm.  If you have enough freezer space I suppose you could do it in tupperware boxes.  My batches last around 3 months and I don't notice any deterioration.

I made some last year about a month or so before I was having a 'do' & wrapped them tightly in clingfilm& froze them after cooking & cooling.....thawed, bunged in the oven for 10 mns on the day....no probs. Bet you can thaw/re-heat from frozen (as per s/market quiches from frozen aisles) but never tried that. Can't see a prob. tho. 8)

I freeze Tarts and Flans, when you are cooking for two you have to.  I do find the firmer fillings freeze best, a good french onion tart for example however I do make some like Cauliflower with Stilton that dose not freeze at all well, it ends up a sloppy/mushy mess! so I would say choice your filling wisely.

Thanks for all your replies.
Yes I want to make and freeze in advance of a "do". So you think perhaps bacon and egg and cheese and onion would be ok.
Maybe I will have a dummy run before the do, to see how it goes. I will let you know!

They certainly do freeze well.

If in doubt about what will freeze, just check and see if the local supermarket sells the stuff frozen.

Most have sites on line by the way so there is no need to go to the shops to see.
