Title: Gigandes and Confused
Post by: Rhubarb Thrasher on May 23, 2008, 20:36:50
I'm confused. According to the EU, Greek gigantes beans are RUNNER beans

http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=CELEX:32003R1428:EN:HTML (http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=CELEX:32003R1428:EN:HTML)

Jeannine sent me some gigandes beans from America, which look exactly the same, and now they've germinated, they're NOT runner beans. Jeannine had these ones down as LIMA beans I think

so for the people here growing gigantes/gigandes - are your's Runners or something else?

I thought gigande/gigante was used to describe both a very large lima bean (butter bean), and a large white-seeded runner bean.
