Title: Funniest things?
Post by: Plot69 on May 20, 2008, 18:24:21

What the weirdest thing you've ever found in a compost heap? A rat? A hedgehog?  A Hamster?

Have to fix a wheel to my shed now  ::)

I didn't move it, It's still there. It's obviously escaped from somewhere. They got big teeth, I'm not catching it!

It must have escaped from somewhere. Just imagine, a little girl sitting in her bedroom, sobbing, clutching an empty plastic ball... Ahhhh!

It's a rodent, vermin. Give it to the RSPCA? It's got more chance of getting a slap with a stainless steel spade. Especially if I find a stash of my missing Kelvedon Wonders in it's pouch.

It's not actually in my heap, it's the chap on the next plot. It has an exceptionally warm and dry nest and an infinite supply of food so I have no doubt it'll survive.

No, I'm not frightened of a 3 oz hamster... It's the 3 inch long teeth that worry me  :-\

;D ;D ;D ;D Talking hamsters.......our cat came home with rather a large one a few years ago, It was honey and white, we tried to catch her but she hopped over the fence and returned a few hours later - alone :'(.

We didn't hear any kiddie scream or adult shouting, dunno where it came from. Same cat jumped a squirrel today, it got away.

Funny you should say that Dippy Chick.

Finding a Hamster in your compost heap doesn't stretch the imagination too much. After all thousands of kids keep them as pets so your bound to get the odd one escape...

However, what are the odds of finding another one on exactly the same plot but in the middle of your other heap 50 foot away?

Same chap came up to me today just as I was packing up with a bucket in his hand and handed me another Hamster, this time a black and white one. He decided not to use the heap the Hamster was in and instead started barrowing his other heap around his plot only to find another totally different Hamster nesting in the middle of it.

Now what are the odds of that? Two Hamsters, two different heaps, same plot, same day.

This time Ishard, not wanting to be afraid of a 3oz Hamster, I picked it up and brought it home. And it's dead tame as well.

How bazaar.  Maybe there is a secret colony living in Peterborough planning to take over the world!

I know there are colonies of Indian Ringneck parakeets living and thriving in the wild down south, I went to a wedding in Ramsgate and see thousands of them.

But Hamsters, in the wild. I doubt they'd survive the winter. But saying that, none of us are sure how long these two have been living in the compost heaps. It can after all be very warm in the middle of a compost heap.

I found it strange finding one but I could live with that. Finding two living separately within 50 foot of each other I found absolutely beyond belief and if I hadn't seen it for myself I'd never have believed it.

Maybe a pregnant one escaped and gave birth and they happily live on the plot ;D

No, he cant. The one I did bring home was because it was homeless and is going to my daughter-in-law... She doesn't know it yet though. We're away far too often for more pets animals. I have enough trouble getting my Son to feed the chickens every weekend.
