Title: How do we get rid of ducks?
Post by: davee52uk on May 20, 2008, 08:46:32
We have a family of ducks in our back garden. Nice enough you may say, they'll eat all the slugs up. We also have a cat who now has to be kept indoors.

How do we get rid of the ducks? We had the same thing last year and we put the ducklings in a box and the the mother followed us down to the river, a few streets away.

Any other ideas and how can we stop this happening next year?

A few packets of strategically placed orange sauce.   ;D

I was going to suggest letting the cat out, but that might be considered a bit extreme.....

We had ducks visit us every year at our old flat.Normally two males and one female. Also at our caravan they come to visit again two males one female.
They do the same every year and I think as they visit for such a short period it is not a problem really.

Having been a cat owner a while back now, I can imagine how frustrating it is to keep your moggy in.
I'm sorry to say, that ducks are a bit insular in their thought patterns. If they feel safe enough to have a brood, then they will return year in, year out.  It may also be likely that the new ducklings will follow suit.
The best way to deal with them is as was previously stated, take them to the local river.
Next year, keep a sharp eye out for them and discourage their nesting ideas.
If they don't feel welcome, they won't stay around.

There is a reason they come away from the river, not sure what but there must be one,so is it safe to take them back to where they do not want to be. :)
