Post by: hazelize_uk on May 17, 2008, 23:53:15
what would be the best growing medium for my chilli plants? i was going to try manure/ grow bag mix but heard the manure might give too much nitrogen. any ideas?

I've always grown mine in the same medium as for my tomatoes - growbag or multipurpose compost - and treated them much the same.

They sell Tomato grow bags at Billing Garden Centre Hazelize, you can possibly get them other places too. I found them to have really nice compost. They are 3 for a tenner and they are fat and deep ;)

I wouldn't mix them together!!

Try putting the manure in the bottom third of the pot and the compost on top of that.

The manure will act as a moisture reservoir for the water seeking roots.
