Title: Clematis Montana
Post by: posie on May 17, 2008, 19:25:00
I can't find one of these anywhere, it's the pink one I'm after that grows really fast apparently.  Can anyone recommend somewhere online that's reliable and good quality where I can get one or would someone be kind enough to let me have a cutting (obviously I'll reimburse postage).

Thank you!

I was going to ask the same question. I keep seeing them looking lovely and think "I want one!"

I have a Clematis Montana "Mayleen", it's beautiful has large single pink flowers and is scented (smells like Carnations, the clovey smelling ones).

I also have another Clematis Montana, no idea of variety though. It too has single pink flowers. This one is a cutting of a cutting of one that used to grow in my garden.

I don't think taking cuttings of either would be a good idea just yet as they are both in flower but I would be willing to try and take cuttings after they are finished flowering. I can also take pictures of both tomorrow and post them here if you want.

ETA Now I feel like just going ahead and taking cuttings just to see what happens  ::)

I have a beautiful montana that I bought many years back, maybe 15 years or so, it covers the front of the house and always looks and smells astonishing.
I have tried to get more plants off it by pinning down the new growth into little pots hoping it would root but always failed miserably.

A few days back I bought a second montana for the back garden, I paid £2.99 from good old Wilkies and just five minutes since have planted in against my pergola, you can't go wrong with Wilkies and the prices they charge :)

As promised, pics of flowers from both my Clematis Montana. The larger of the Two is 'Mayleen' (flower is approx 3 inches across) and the other is unknown this flower is not yet fully open but won't be as large as 'Mayleen'.

Hi, sorry Twospot, not been online for a day or so (yes miracles do happen!).  A cutting from the Mayleen one would be lovely when it's ready.  :)
