Title: White Onions
Post by: TheEssexYorkshireman on May 15, 2008, 21:05:22
I was in the garden centre last weekend and bought a strip of onion seedlings. I already have onions at the allotment but they were sets. Could someone tell me how best to plant them? Are they planted like leeks by puddling in?

Thanks
Stephen

I've never seen those before, do they have any roots on already.
Can you supply a picture?

No you dont set onions like leeks.. You say "white onions" are these spring onions or normal sized onions? ..

Normal onions growmore not spring. There are 13 in the strip and look just like leeks but aren't.

Try to plant them the same depth they are in the strip..Rake in some blood fish and bone prior to planting..I presume you mean by a strip they are in the little modules.. Alternatively pot them on into 3 inch pots grow them on a bit, then plant them out..You may get bigger onions by potting them on  for a while.

Thanks growmore I think I will pot them on for a couple of weeks then take them up to the allotment.
