Post by: Flunky on May 13, 2008, 11:44:14
There are black spots on the leaves of one of my epicure 2nd early spud plants. I hope its not blight (never seen it before), Any ideas ? ???

Haven't a clue!  Sorry - Don't panic though!!

Bound to be someone along in a minute saying that it is nothing to worry about.  Fingers crossed!

well, it starts with black spots but it seems to early for blight but maybe the early heat we've had following so soon after all the rain we had - who knows, watch it carefully is all I could offer

Not an expert, but I'm fairly certain blight starts with brown not black spots.

So far this year, only one attack of blight has been reported to the Potato Council  fight_against_blight (http://www.potato.org.uk/department/knowledge_transfer/fight_against_blight/index.html?menu_pos=knowledge_transfer) and that was from Southwest Wales in mid April - always want to be first those Welsh don't they - which seems pretty unlikely unless  the crop was grown under cover.
