can you still get the powder you used to dip your cabbage/Brussels sprouts etc into, remember my dad using it when i was a kid?

The powder was Calomel dust and no you can't get it now. Its been banned too much mercury in it as I recall.

Would Jeye's fluid have the same effect?
I did notice that the cabbage whites weren't settling on mine after I'd watered them in with it - got it on the leaves too.
Cabbage pests do not like the smell of marigolds.

put rhubarb leaves in a tub of water, leave for a few weeks then water your cabbage etc with the water - cabbage whites wont go near it

try a garlic spray, boil up a couple of old garlic bulbs, water it down a bit and spray , keeps greenfly off, not sure about cabbage whites but it stinks ;D
oh, I think it's the french marigolds, that's what I use ;D
I also use french marigolds inside the Gh and outside. Tagetes are also very good. the foxes don't seem to like them either.

what dilution rate do you use with the armilatox?
I use Derris powder, think it's quite harmless to most things...except the ones you want rid of...fly-beetles and caterpillers!

The same as I described before 1 measure to two gallons of water.
Perhaps I had better explain that I use armillatox for its versatility as it works for me with many gardening chores.
The dose I give at planting out time caters for; root fly, cabbage whites I think the smell is the deterrent here. It is also used as a club root control and I have to say it works for me.
It also works for cleaning algae of green house glass, cleaning moss off footpaths, cleaning pots.
All in all its a good all round product.
One might think it a bit pricey but when you consider I treat about 150 brassicas, wash around 800 pots, 100 trays, and keep the glass clean on four greenhouses every year and a bottle does me at least two years I don't find it at all pricey.
Plus it works!!. which is more than I can say for some products supposedly designed to do the same things, so that doubles the reason for me to use it.
By the way; I don't have a vested interest in the product, and I don't think it is organic but who cares I don't 8)
Edit;By the way I never spray plants with it I only use it as a soil treatment.
