hi at home we have a privet hedge over the weekend I gave it a trim and now have two bags of cuttings. can I put them on the compost down the allotment or are they poison-es.

Yes you can compost them privet is not poisonous but even if it was it could still be composted. Poisons break down during the composting process so you can add poisonous plant material wether it is rhubarb leaves or deadly nightshade the resulting compost is perfectly safe.

I put my neighbour's privet clippings around my red currants as a mulch & they were fine...
