...that few people mention include the fact that, when you use them to shift muck, you don't run the risk of getting manure in your ear, unlike when you fill a bucket and balance it on your shoulder.
Anyone else? Or would that just be me? ::)
Manure in the ear ::) Is that to help with growing spuds as my mam might say Yeah, I know what you mean, I suffer from it regularly... Not! ;D ;D ;D
Try a bucket with a handle on.
They're also useful for moving vandals to your manure heap when you bury them. I got a slipped disc burying the last person who broke into my lottie. Now health and safety rules thanks to the humble wheelbarrow.
<hopes the police read this and turn up with spades>
Another advantage of the builders wheelbarrow is the built-in squeak from the wheel. This was invented so that the foreman could sit in the site hut and hear the lads working. ;D

Our wheelbarrow is just like that! It seems to be made of cast iron, weighs a ton empty, has a few rust holes in it and a squeeky wheel that is a completely random squeek :)

Or giving the weasles something to carry thier loot home in !!!!!
I have 2 wheelbarrows one i use for weeding and one for barrowing stuff i find with my back its the stopping and starting that causing me more pain so if i have a lot of move i will fill 2 barrows at the same time then push them over to the plot one at a time. Dont think i could move as much with a bucket given my back.
As for using my barrows to move stolen stuff i have a gap onto my plot about 10 ft wide and what i do is move both barows to the front of my plot and put a sea buckthorn plant by the handles. This means that anyone going onto my plot at night (when it tends to get broken into) will see the barrier in the light of a torch and when they go to move the barrows get a handful or 3 inch long thorns ;)
Hi all, :)
Everybody laughs at my wheelbarrow :-[ and wants to know when I`m going to get a bigger one (size matters in these things :-X) or a proper laddish builders barrow.
I like my teeny weeny skinny Index (remember them?) barrow. Its small but I can`t push a big load and its not heavy so the barrow isn`t heavier than the stuff in it.
I use it all the time moving stuff between my plots and collecting stuff from off site. ( I just collected loads of free bricks so I can make a proper patio and huge amounts of wood chips for mulching) I would rather make two light trips than one heavy one `cus I have old bones.
I have an old builders barrow in my shed as a spare but I never use it and it has a flat tyre a problem my little barrow will never suffer as it has a solid wheel (more laughter from surrounding plots ::))
My wheelbarrow has my name and allotment address and house postcode on it to make it less desirable to thieves.
Col
The wheel came off my old wheelbarrow, it was so old no-one stole it.
I bought a new one, a ladies very lightweight one, from Liddels (excuse spelling) but think it is too light. The men on my allotment are very friendly and let me use their wheelbarrows but they are a bit heavy.
hiya, borlotti, welcome to the site, we have a 4 wheel lightweight truck, mesh bottom so we put wood in the bottom to put soil, manure etc in it :)
ray uses a lightweight barrow if he needs it :)

I got manure in the ear yesterday when I accidentally turned on Radio 5 in the afternoon. And I thought the football season finished last week ::)
Does anyone know where I can buy a wheelbarrow with a high handle please. I am currently using one, it is okay but when I rest it , it tends to topple sideways. I'm not sure why it does that. The tyres are fully inflated so it can't be the wheels.
They make great chairs when you stop for a rest. Just push the handles to the ground and back yourself in. I have also heard that they would be very handy if you ever picked up a 'lady of the night' that had the misfortune to loose her legs. But I will leave you to work that one out.
I just turned my old rusty builders wheelbarrow into a planter for herbs this weekend as
I bought a shiny new squeek free aluminium one that is much lighter ;D
I've found bits of manure in my hair and even down my bra before from being a bit over enthusiastic with my azada....and before anyone says anything.....no it didn't help my hair or anything else grow...! ;D
