could someone help i was given an aloe vera plant about 3 inch in height was in compost when i recieved it chanded to a more sand based soil more drainage put into my greenhouse to try and give some consistent temp but still after about a week and a half doesnt seem to be much of a change in the way it looks ( dull and almost pale ) could some one offer some advice please as what i should do next to rescue this plant
It could be too cold for it in the night, i keep mine in the house till June.
ill take you up on this as i was concidering if the temp was too cold for it the day would be fine thanks again
i might hijack this thread - I have an aole vera that is 3 years old - and it is getting too tall!! the bottom leaves are now getting thin and haggard looking but the top bit is young and healthy. Is there any way of potting on an aloe?
What do you mean by potting on?
There is nothing special about Aloe vera. Pot it on as required until you get to a pot you cannot lift. Leaves can easily get to 4" wide and 24" long if grown in a big pot.
HELLO , i HAVE A VERY LARGE aLOE vERA, OPPPPS!!
Vera as we call her, she was out all the winter for the second year running i also have just ordinary soil in the pot John Innes i believe, YES i know, but you should see her, i shall try & get a photo on soon. I have had a few babies from my plant & just pot them up & leave them for a couple of months & then give them away, no fuss here & they survive. (hope i havent tempted fate with that statement) ::) Rosebud.
Warning! Not all Aloe Veras are aloe veras, some of them just look like them. Even aloe vera itself has quite a few varieties, don't go rubbing the sap in a wound until you are sure it is the right one. A tour guide in the canary islands told me it was only a certain colour one that is the right one to use.
Mine seems to work on burns etc, but I've no idea what variety it is! I'd really neglected it and finally took it out of its pot recently and separated lots of babies, all of which are doing well now. They are in the house, but the "leftover" bit is in the greenhouse and looking very washed out so I think cold may be the answer.

Ace is right not all Aloe Veras are the same, some do lose the leaves and form a stem and some don't, and don't worry if they look a bit tatty mine allways do at this time a year but then again so do i.
