Title: OK, What's eating them?
Post by: Sinbad7 on May 05, 2008, 14:12:54
Hopefully the same isn't going to happen to mine but two plot holder's have had the same problem.

Their carrots have germintaed fine, they grow to about an inch and overnight the whole row has disappeared, so whatever is eating them?

For all the years I have gardened I had never heard of the slugs eating them that's why I asked.

I do find it weird as it's only been the last couple of years that I have heard people have their carrots eaten like this.

LOL, you're sure it's the slugs mainscousers? ;D

Oh dear mainscousers whatever is gardening coming to ;D ;D

Odd times for sure.

You could have laid money on it if your carrots germinated you only had the carrot fly to worry about, and as for eating onion tops and greenfly on the chives this time of year we now have new challenges ahead.  They do say you can't beat nature so for every hurdle the gardener overcomes another is ready to take it's place.

I suppose it's what keeps us going :)

Half my marigolds have been hoovered since I went away this weekend.  Now just empty trays of compost without a trace of marigold........  Must be a ghost....

Slugs love marigold but usually they leave dome sort of slime trail if there is none then i would put it down to vole,s.
