It requires a covenant (a legal document) to limit the use of the site to allotments. Such limitations are built into the contract when a piece of land is sold.

It is therefore a matter between the buyer and seller of the land.

The land is council owned, but has been allotments, as far as i can find out, since the first world war. Does anyone know what moves should try and be made to get them made statutory?

I'm guessing that someone out there must have been involved in this process
before on other sites?

As far as I know it's either written in when the site is set up, or it isn't. I'm not sure you can get it on an existing site.

As I understand it. Statutory allotments were old established ones, made such before a certain date.

You can't get that status now.
