Title: Best plant for keeping people out of allotments?
Post by: spiritofold on May 04, 2008, 16:17:48
I'm looking at growing some kind of natural security up against a chainlink fence
at the front of our allotments.

What quick growing plants could i put in to make it a pain for people who want to climb over. Theres lots of bramble at one end, do you think it would be better to dig up and transplant some of this, or is there something more evil
out there that i could put in?

I've got hold of some hedgehog roses, but I'm not sure if they will be man enough put people off.

Whats best?

Andy...

What about pyracantha? We put this in to stop teenagers climbing over our front wall and it seems to have worked well. It flowers well, grows pretty quickly, has berries for the birds and has thorns that really do stop you from wanting to get too close.

You obviously have the same problems as we do in Erdington. Buckthorn was suggested. We haven't managed to get any yet though. We have Pyracantha in the garden and we do have to watch when we get near it, We also have a purple berberis and thats even nastier if you let the hard wood grow. I favour barbed or razor wire but its against the law to have it on a fence that isn't a certain height.
