I've just noticed the first greenflies on my young apple tree - only six foot tall.
What can I do to stop this now before the tree is covered in them
The tree is currently in blossom.
Many thanks.
Steve
I wouldn't worry. When I was a kid we had a cherry tree outside the back door which was so covered in aphids every year the leaves all curled up. It still produced loads of cherries. If it has a serious infestation, there's probably something wrong.
The ants take them there and then milk them.
Put something sticky around the trunk, they do grease bands in the garden centres. but double sided carpet tape works well too, as does parcel tape stick side out, take it off at the end of summer in case it stops the growth though.
The ladybirds should get them off for you, they fly so the sticky wont trap them.
