Title: Minipop Sweetcorn
Post by: Norfolk n Proud on May 01, 2008, 20:08:11
Is anyone growing Minipop sweetcorn, not tried it before, so did you plant straight into position or plant out as small plugs from greenhouse?

Minipop sweet corn is harvested as soon as the tassels show, before the sweet corn is pollinated. As Minipop does not need pollinating it can be planted in rows rather than the traditional blocks.

Thanks Saddad and PH, now I'm starting to get organised, i can't wait to get stuff planted, will it be OK to start sowing the sweetcorn now?

Yes, I haven't planted mine yet as we are running behind... the variety is important as some like up to 90 days proper summer, which we rarely get here!  ;D

PurpleHeather, I didn't think about growing it in rows and I grow lots of it so that is great news, much easier to deal with.

I also sow in cells, root trainers if poss as they don't really like root disturbance when planted out.  Mine have been in about 10 days now and already we have good sturdy plants.  I guess I should start hardening them off in a week or twos time.
