Title: raspberries
Post by: wattapain on July 24, 2004, 13:22:41
Hi, we have just taken on a lottie and are (very) slowly getting it sorted, but my question is about moving rasberry canes from my tiny garden, where they are very cramped, to the lottie. I followed all the instructions - cut down the fruited canes to the groundand there are about 5 or 6 new and quite healthy looking ones around them. Do we just dig them up and replant them ? Hope someone can help

If you can wait until mid September onwards to move your canes that would be better than doing it now. The soil is still warm enough for them to continue producing roots, but the plants have normally stopped producing top growth.
If you have to move them now then try to dig them out with as little soil disturbance as you can and wrap the soil ball in something to keep it intact while in transport. Water well before moving and after planting. OR, you could just yank them out of the ground and stick them in at their new site. Either way works. (The first is safer though).
