Title: Can cucumbers go outside now??
Post by: kt. on April 30, 2008, 21:19:12
My cucumbers are too big for inside the house.  Can they go in a unheated greenhouse in their permenant position.  (Carmen & Marketmore).   SIze can be compared by the heated propogator at the side of the photo.

Also, can I put some marketmore outside in the open yet?

Sounds like you've got the same problem as me- have a look at the "Growing cucmers thread that started yesterday.

I think both would be fine in an unheated greenhouse - have fleece handy in case of late frosts

If you really have to plant MM outside, cover with a cloche until the wind and rain subside.

Once my seeds (of any kind) are germinated in the propagator they go into an unheated greenhouse. They are zooming along nicely.

On really sunny days I leave the door open. Once the weather warms a bit more they will spend the days outside and if it gets too cool at night they will be back inside.

Plants are tougher than you think  ;D

It is the gardener's premature ejaculation problem again.  Plant too early with too much heat and they burst forth sooner than they can be accommodated.

Get a bigger pot.

OR

Bubble wrap, fleece, plastic wrap (even double plastic bags at night).

It is not safe, alone, outside yet. It could get frosted.

It will be fine in an unheated greenhouse or a decent cloche though.
