i have forgotten whom i have to answer about a lily planting.
It was the gala lily , someone wanted to know which way up it was i said i would look at mine , wellllll, i looked & they have not budged an inch so i wonder now why & which way up myself they should go i planted them 2 mths ago. ;D;D ;D ;D ::) ;D
was me rosebud :) My friends haven't budged either :) so i am none the wiser :)
As long as it's buried it probably doesn't matter too much which way up it is. The roots go down, the shoot comes up, and the new bulb will form the right way up at the end of the season.
The 'scales' (thick fleshy leaves) grow from the base upwards.
Here the flower shoot is in the top left, the roots bottom right.

Hmmm The Cala lily has no sign of which way up does it Rosebud :D
Let me know what you find out when you ask :)
Calla lily should be planted smooth convex side downwards. The top is dimpled, pimpled or otherwise bumpy and often has a distinct depression.
Unless kept very warm most calla will not yet be shooting yet particularly the rhemanii hybrids.
Hi Springbok, i asked local garden centre, ans was, the slightly pointed side to the top!!, not to deep about 1" deep water in then leave they should shoot up within 4 wks. They said i had planted mine to deep at about 3" ::).
Hope this helps. Rosebud. ;D
