Thought about it for several years, finally cost of petrol, fruit and veg got to me, applied for vacant plot, so hopefully will be plotting soon.
Hi Kickingkatie,
Good luck! - you'll soon be addicted and collecting all kinds of weird things to use at the lottie!
;D ;D
Already got loads of weird things, longtime skip diver, although not as bad as other half. Read quite a few feeds on here in last few days about what lottie folk get up to. Think having a lottie is part of my destiny, All that wood and those tyres have finally got a home to go to, just wish I hadn't sent all that 100% pure wool carpet to the dump when I did my sons bedroom makeover a few months ago, and the underlay, would have been great for covering after weeding.
eh up
welcome
where in the world are you?
God they don't make it easy on the internet, spent half an hour of my life trying to reply. I am in Hounslow, West Middlesex, London, 20 Minutes from Heathrow airport if traffic is not too bad. How can anything I grow be ever considered organic when the planes offload their fuel before they land, just over my plot?
it might be a good idea to start pricing up ploy tunnels ;D
Hi Katie
Are you actually getting a plot now or have you been put on a waiting list? I know that there are vacant plots at the Hatton Road site at the moment. They were being discussed in a local Freecycle Cafe - could probably find the posting if you wanted it.
Ploy tunnels??? New language to be learnt here, and what is leaf rot? do I need to go out after dark to collect leaves in autumn, and what do I do with them once I've got them?
vacant plot in Gainsborough Gardens - Hounslow/Isleworth, just hope it isn't near all those Leyllandi (sp). Toolsheds provided (concrete eyesores with doors hanging off).
I hope all goes well
most questions can be answered on here or there is always the library while you wait :D
Ceres, have found a site that has vacancies, Hatton is to far for me, I want to be able to reach the plot on bike, with my 3 year old in trailer and other children cycling . Cutting down on fuel miles. I cycle 6-12 miles with my son every day on school run. Also this site has 49 plots, I don't want to be on a small plot, because I think I have a lot to learn, and neighbours will help. and a lot of the time I will be a female on her own and do feel there is safety in mumbers.
I'm on the Hatton road site. *waves*
Hiya Katie
Hope you get your new plot soon. Sounds like you have your hands full already!
You can still call yours organic despite the planes kicking out their fuel - hopefully not too much will land on your plot - at least you won't have insecticides as well!
Keep us posted on your progress!
Old Bird
;D
hiya, kkatie, nice to meet you ;D
Hi Katie
There are a few of us on here with plots in Isleworth/Hounslow. Which site are you on or hoping to be on?
I'm on Park Road, opposite Syon Park.
Hello. :D How long is your waiting list. Not too long hopefully, fingers crossed
Hi Katie,
Good luck in your lotty journey :)
...and don't mourne the lost carpet too much....it's not recommended for use anymore if you want to be organic because of the fire retartdant & other chemicals used in it. See here for more details:
http://www.gardenorganic.org.uk/todo_now/faqs.php?id=111 (http://www.gardenorganic.org.uk/todo_now/faqs.php?id=111)
Best of luck with your application. With regards the leaves you can collect them and bag them up and leave them for a while and they will rot down then you can add them to your soil.
Many thanks for your warm welcome, I'm learning loads just by reading the posts on the site. The council say that there are vacancies on the site I have looked at, there may even be a choice of plots. Hopefully they will get back to me soon. The children are can't wait to get stuck in.
Re: question where are you? I have found a site in Gainsborough Gardens, off Hall rd, it's on the Twickenham/Heston side of Isleworth, not far from the rugby ground. I have a friend who shares a plot on the Park rd site.
Welcome Kicking Katie... the Ploy tunnel was a typo... Polytunnel... would keep the atomised fuel off the plants....
:)
