Hi all
I would love to try grow a melon plant.
Can anyone spare one or two seeds... :)
Something like honeydew or watermelon or something similar.
Thank you
J
May not be quite what you're after (let me know) but I've got some Minnesota Midget small cantaloupe melon seeds from realseeds:
http://www.realseeds.co.uk/melons.html
"Compact vines grow about 4' and quickly set several small (cricketball-sized) melons with sweet orange flesh, edible right to the rind."
Very, very early melon.
I've never grown it so can't comment on the flavour but I thought a very early variety might have a chance in the UK. Happy to send you some seeds to try...
Hiya SBG - we've still got a few Charleston Gray watermelon left (packet says sow end of April so still plenty of time)
....pm us if you want em ;D
Thanks to everyone that offered :)
All been great
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Posted this morning ;D
Been away so didn't notice you here.
You got any kids near you??? I grow a Mellon that they love. It's called a Kiwano.
They are sometimes called a Jelly Mellon because the inside consists of individual seeds which are all coated with something that is best described as a melon flavoured wine gum or jelly bean.
If you have experienced a pomegranate then you will know what the inside is like. You nick the jelly bean with your teeth and suck out the seed and wow, you are treated to a small chewy melon gum. It takes the kids ages to wade through them.
Just one word of warning though, as the fruit grows and develops lots of hard spines cover the exterior of the fruit and must be removed before introducing to the kids.
Easy to grow. Best with a little protection. Immature fruits can be used as cucumber I understand but never tried myself.
