Not actually French - Hunter type. The first lot.
Did you start these indoors, Tim?
Indeed - on 9 April, in root trainers.
Gosh that looks impressive. Not sown my runners yet, I tend to leave them until mid May but sowed the dwarf beans on saturday - wonder if it'll be a good year for beans :)
Thought about an early sowing but held back after last years loss. Am going to sow some next week. Could fleece them but then the foxes would rip it up.
ive got some little borlottis in the unheated greenhouse in the backgarden and am starting off some dwarf yellow beans (pretty!) and theyre destined for the outside pop up jobby when theyve got leaves, was curious, when do you plant them out? (and yes tell tone i kno ive got 2 dig space 1st, lol! am trying!! bit tricky with a bad leg this week and even worse weather!) im trying 2 gauge how urgent the digging is, as im clearing the weeds are having a field day so dont want 2 leave anything bare for long.... and think this yr im better sowing at home n then transplanting....dont think my carrots are coming up :( will try again when im 100% sure they havent...oh and root trainers, what are they? do glass jars with kitchen paper in them count? like u did at school?
My French beans are taking ages to germinate- mind you they are in a cold greenhouse so just need some sun hopefully!
Hi there I'm new to the forum & allotments
in response to the long germination time for runners. I think most beans need to the correct temp range to germinate. they dont need light so do what I did & bring them indoors untill they show above the soil in the pot. ( no good if you have sown directly in the ground at your lotti though)
hope it helps & hello everyone
