I got meself a cd case to hold all my seeds. I'ts a right posh un an orl. Cost Tone a tenner but well worth it. Have just finished getting all the packets of seeds installed. Will save me having to sort all through them to find what Iwant
I went to Lidls yesterday as they'd advertised the gardening goods. I was after the shrubs for £1.49. They had absolutely ZIP from the ad so I'm not best pleased. And no-one could tell me when - or if - the stuff would be arriving.

Well, there were no kiwi fruit but I've already got two anyway - 'Jenny' and 'Issai'. So I got 2 Solanum, 2 Mandevilla, 4 Datura (they're actually Brugmansia but who's counting) and eight Lantana!
Now the Lantana I can excuse (a bit). The first time I went to Malta I was wandering along having a nosey at people's gardens when I came across a wonderful hedge, about 4ft high, in full flower of every colour. It was stunning. Then I caught a whiff of the foliage - I thought it smelt really nice, almost fruity - a bit like the foliage on dog roses. Found out it was Lantana and decided that one day I'd try to grow a hedge of it.
But as for the rest of my purchases, well... er... here's where it gets silly.
I've already got two large Brugmansia in pots in the garden and am growing some babies from cuttings which are doing great.
I'm also growing Mandevilla (a different variety) from seed and Solanum from last year's saved seed (yup! It fruited!) and they're also all doing fine.
So why did I do it?
BECAUSE THEY WERE THERE, OF COURSE!

I bought a blackcurrant bush a couple of weeks ago from them, 5 euros (about 3 pounds) and it is flourishing.
Bought half a dozen fruit trees (apple, pair and cherry). Let's just say I am not expecting miracles unless I believe in reincarnation.
There's a bit of new growth further back but cetrainly the majority of the stems are pretty dead. I got them when they first appeared in the store so there was plenty to choose from. And I thought I'd got the best ones!!!

Wow, saw a large Brugmansia at Kew Gardens on Sunday absolutly gorgeous... Are they hard to keep?
No, not really. They're thirsty beggars, mind you, and they can grow HUGE, but they can also take quite a hard pruning (plant those offcuts and you'll have some babies in no time). Sometimes they get a deficiency - can't remember if it's magnesium or iron or what, but he leaves start yellowing. I usually give them a boost of a mineral feed and they perk up in no time.
I remember when I got mine and they flowered for the first time. I was sooooo disappointed. I'd heard people going on about the wonderful scent, but I could only get the faintest whiff - and that was after practically wearing the flower on my nose. Then the sun went down and - WOW! They really are spectacular.
