Title: Have I destroyed my Tomatoes?????
Post by: aob9 on April 27, 2008, 08:44:22
I was thrilled to see the weather warm up over the weekend and took the opportunity to remove some clutter from my indoor windowsills. My tomatoes where beginning to get a bit leggy so I moved them to my greenhouse. I don't know why, but I forgot to check the weather forecast!!!!!!!!!!

I got up at 6.15 this morning to find a frost outside and on inspection my glasshouse temperature had dropped to 2.5 degrees C. No heater and no fleece on my poor Tom's.

Do you think they have had a very severe check to their growth?
Should I head off to my local garden centre to replace them?

or will they grow out of this?

I am really annoyed with myself, I never let this happen before.

They will grow out of it... but as they were under glass you may have got away with it, leave it a week to see if the leaves react, eg turn purple before givin up on them..

Keep them warm and hope! It hasn't killed them, so I'd say you have a good chance. A few years ago I had a frost on june 16th, after mine had been out for a couple of weeks. One end of the row was badly set back, the other end, which can't have been far above freezing, was unaffected. The crop was OK in the end, even from the affected plants.

My beans caught a late frost last year but they survived and cropped well,

I would start a few more plants off just in case they die.You can always give them as a gift to someone if you do not need them. :)

They will not have appreciated it and might sulk for a couple of days but I agree with the concensus that  they  will recover-just don`t do it again :)

Have the leaves turned a bluey green or shrivelled?
