Title: Plastic covered fields !

can anyone tell me why I see fields covered in rows of plastic ! ???

I'm sure someone told me once......but I've slept since  ;)

Hi wilko,
most probably to warm the soil and speed the germination of whatever crop the farmers are putting out, i won't be surprised if they are covered in concrete in the not so far future. :'( :'(

On the farm where I sometimes help out they are carrot crops. ;)

some have biodegradeable fleecy type paper on, don't know if it's for carrots  :)

Half our county is covered and it is for strawberries.The farmers market in summer sell strawbs on the strength of the no plastic method.A bit of a sore point around here and Mr Don is local and against it too.
