I sowed far too many celery seeds and they all germinated, which I wasn't expecting. I've potted up plenty for growing into full sized plants, but can I use the rest of them as a herb or salad leaf? I've not got much space left but I could find a wee corner to stick them in if it's worth it.
Does any one else grow celery just for the leaves?
... if you have grown 2 much you can use them as a slug barrier for other plants.
can't remember if the article was on tv or in a magazine, there's a farm that grows everything, just for the small, sprouted leaves, they grow them for restaurants..they have whole tracts of them, all different sorts, eat your celery seedlings, I'm sure they'll be delicious
and if you have loads soup them!
;D
They are so small.. Took ages to prick out 50 or so.
I hadn't realised just how tiny they were.
Maybe mine are midget celery?
No Delboy, they are really tiny, but they soon shoot up once you give them their own space. I did mine a fortnight ago and they now look like proper miniature celery plants, albeit ones with only five or six stalks on.
Thanks you all for your advice - I think I'll put them in a bigger pot in the greenhouse and nibble on them as required. Don't think I've got enough for soup Saddad, although I'm sure that would be delicious. Made parsley soup once when I overdid that, and it was yummy.
Sowing too much seems to be a theme with me... ;)
Cor, Ive got none at all yet! ???
Sown over a fortnight ago, covered with vermiculite and placed in a cold greenhouse - not one has shown so far!!! >:(
Still though, the seed packet did say 20 - 30 days ( :o ) for germination, so maybe I should be a little more patient!
Could I offer to swap them for something else ?? ::) ;D
Hi Flowerlady - I would happily give some to you, but I'm not sure they would survive the journey - they are quite delicate wee things. If you know a way that I could post them without killing them they're yours!
