Title: Potato Anya - how man chits?
Post by: chappy on April 24, 2008, 19:31:24
Hi all,

I've finally got my Anya potato seed ready for planting.  Got nice strong chits on them now.

The packet said early to mid April but I'm sure they will be OK a week late.

I will be growing 5 of them in one of those barrels with sliding doors to get to the potatoes when they are ready.

I was wondering how many chits I should leave on the seed potatoes for the best crop.

My understanding is that - more chits = lots of small potatoes.  less chits = fewer but larger potatoes.

Anyone else grown Anya?  And if so how many chits do you leave on?

Thanks,

Chappy.

The old boys used to tell me to leave the best three on but If your soil is up to scratch then I would just plant them and enjoy :)

Don't know about barrel growing, but I never rub off the chits. Too much else to think about!

Fair enough chaps.  I'll plant them as is.

It will be organic compost and manure as my gorwing medium.

Many thanks.
