Title: Strawberries keep dying
Post by: princescruffster on April 24, 2008, 18:00:43
I bought some barerooted strawberries in the autumn which I potted up.  They keep sprouting lovely green leaves, but these turn brown and the stems wither and die. They keep trying poor things.   Can't see anything obvious crawling on them.  Any ideas?

Thanks
Nicola ???

we had some, they were too wet, transplanted them to big pots, they're fine, the soil was waterlogged  :)

Mmmm... interesting. I planted 30 strawberry plants in a large plastic strawberry tower. Everything fine until last month. Slowly individual plants have disappeared and turned brown. No browning of leaves - these disappear. I didn't think of weevils - i'll check.

I netted them last weeken and found one of the plastic holders of the planrs about 2 foot away and another plant with no leaves. I wondered if hedgehogs were getting them, but they are in random places - not all along the bottom.
