Title: Spring Frosts
Post by: gonz on April 24, 2008, 14:07:07
Can anyone tell me if there is a website you can go on to see when the last of the frosts are likely to be in a certain area?

Thanks.

I tend to use www.metcheck.com (http://www.metcheck.com) for predictions.  The site is usually very good for up to 3 day forecasts.

I use Metcheck as well but I don't think  it gives first and last dates

Try  http://www.gardenaction.co.uk/main/weather.asp (http://www.gardenaction.co.uk/main/weather.asp)

You have to set your location - click on the flag half way down the page

Thanks a lot, I'll give them both a try.

I use Metcheck and observation, but be prepared for frosts at any time. A few years ago we had one on June 16th, which walloped my outdoor tomatoes.

Liverpool; I would say mid May at best, but keep an eye on the forecast just in case.

Metcheck does 14 days ahead and is predicting fairly low temperatures right into May, so I'll be leaving things for a few more weeks if I can.

They have a frost forecast that does 48 hours ahead - and it is usually on the cautious (barkingly so sometimes) side.

We don't put out anything really tender until June...

I tend to associate frosts with the full moon and the next one is 20th May (the flower moon) and I reckon for sure you'll be ok after that and even before for hardening off but be watchful so that you can bring things in or fleece accordingly
