Title: Strawberries
Post by: caseylee on April 23, 2008, 23:23:40
my husband bought me some strawberry plants last year which did not produce any fruit ( sorry only three or 4) but I put them in the cold greenhouse through winter, and replanted some of the buds.  This year i have made  a raised bed for them and they look very well.  When do strawberries usually produce fruit, adn what do I do with them come winter should I dig them up and pot them in the cold greenhouse or leave them where they are

Leave them out in situ caseylee, strawbs are tough old things and dont mind cold winters. They should do well for you ;)

They crop better in the second and third years then go into terminal decline...

Give them a year, and if they don't fruit, get some runners to grow on for next year, and get rid of them. I inherited some strawberries on my plot, which were never any good at all; after several years, I discovered that they do eventually get viruses. The raspberries I inherited were the same.
