To all Englishmen and women out there a very happy St Goerge's day to you :) :)
Just got back from taking Joshua to school, was nice to see several flags out.
Happy St George's day! ;D
We have a pub in the High Street, The George & Dragon, who have put out the biggest Georges cross you have ever seen! It seems to cover the front of the pub lol. Brilliant though. It's good to see that the day is finally being recognised by the ordinary English folk again. Instead of them all turning into plastic paddys in March. ;D
It would seem that St Georges Day is celebrated by several other Countries in the World as well as England!

That is my only problem with St George's Day - St George! He's not real - or at least his reported exploit is a work of fantasy, and he isn't even English based. Why can't we have an English based saint - we have enough of them.
Happy St George's Day :)
I heard he was Turkish! As a Scot, a very happy day to y'all!!!

Though I see your point, changing our patron saint to the most popular English Saint of choice, St Alban would mean we would somehow have to replace St George's Cross with that of St Alban's in the Union flag too!

Try fitting that in! lol
I wise person (ok he wasn't that wise he was just my law tutor) once said to me "if it isn't broken, don't try and fix it". I would say that applies to the subject of changing patron saints. George has served us well for centuries and I would hate to see the PC crowd change it.
Happy St Georges day! - im wearing my rose button hole, and it was nice to see local shops making the effort with flags.
Whatever his faults as a Patron Saint, its good to see people celebrating!

Happy St Georges day to one and all.

Jeez - why do people always have to level that at something they don't agree with. PC is just about treating people with respect - that is all. It is not about changing saints or not flying flags. And I said Happy St George's Day.
BTW - your birthday being today doesn't have anything to do with your views does it - cos it does have a lot to do with myt vehement defence of the May Day bank holiday.

I was not having a go at you red, I was just worked up from something I heard on the radio this morning. That person also suggested we don't celebrate it at all as it alienates non English residents! lol.
My birthday isn't today, it's the 30th of September.
Be fair, we've never really celebrated St George's Day at all. Truth is, if you're Irish, Welsh or Scots you have a special day, and if you're English - Every Day's A Special Day ;D

Sorry lacelotte - was sneeking a look during break time at work and did not have time to look around. Saw lancelotte had a birthday last night when I was on and didn't check the names either. Further, I am the sort of person who is often accused of being PC even though I regard PC as being basic good manners and rarely buy in to that publicity seeking rubbish and I do believe we should make more of our national day. BTW - Happy Birthday lancelotte - good day for it :)
I agree with Lacelotte. Let's have St Alban - clearly the patron saint of Ikea!
;D
My kids school covers most nationalities and patriotic days as a subject, on the relevant day. From Burns Night, St Patricks day, different cultural awareness and dress codes, different faiths including Muslim, Hindu, Catholic. But today they never did not touch the topic or anything close to do with St George. When I asked the teacher, she said they did not want to offend others.... hhmmm..... how strange to accommodate everyone else except our own.
Burn her on the stake I say, burn her on the stake ;D ;D ;D
We had none of that nonsense round our way.
The flag was flying on our flag pole on the village green and the shops had the flags out.

Yeaa, David Beckham? ........................just joking! ;D ;D ;D
Excuse my ignorance but what does PC stand for please, apart from Personal Computer?

PC = Political correctness
Redclanger, I thought there must have either been a mix up with names, I had entered my birthday incorrectly in my profile or I was being granted a second birthday like Her Majesty. The latter would have been the better of the three but my fiancee wouldn't have any of it :(
Hi all I went out for a drink to celebrate, but our club had two pound a pint and that was it ,they do seem to celebrate paddys day more and he was English. ;D ;D ;D
I really do not like the way that everybody becomes Oirish on St Patrick's and drinks Guinness (think this may be in the St Patrick's thread) Love the term Plastic Paddy - think I may adopt that one next year. ;D
