Title: Planting Raspberry, Blackcurrent etc..
Post by: Isleworth on April 22, 2008, 14:05:20
Hi Everyone,

I have recently purchased a variety of Berry/Current bushes and wondered if I can plant them all in the same raised bed with decent gaps between?

I have three Raspberry, one Red Current, one Black Current, and one Red Gooseberry... probably end up with three of each by the time they are planted!

Also have two Blueberry but I have them planted in ericaceous compost in a large tub so guess they should remain potted... ? ?

Any advice, would be gratefully recieved ;)

The currants and gooseberries can go in the same bed but will need a lot of space as they grow... the raspbery is best on it's own as it will send out new plants and if they get among the currant roots you will never get them out!!
;D
Hope you enjoy your new lottie!

Just  a idea about planting raspberries, they like to spread so what I have done is dig out a trench and lined it with a pond liner I poked a couple of holes for drainage, then refilled the trench and planted my canes. I don't know if it will stop the spread of the root but its worth a try
