Title: winter lettuce
Post by: shirlton on April 20, 2008, 16:10:09
Have grown some lettuce in the cold greenhouse at the allotment this year.Winter density. I sowed the seed in Jan and we have started eating this week. If you like Little Gem then you will love this. Thought I had gone overboard with the amount that germinated but so glad that I did. The flavour is great

Tim I grew them in the ground where Tony grew his ring culture tomatoes last year.  The Gh has a wire netting door so is not too hot.I got the seed from Marshalls. The packet says to sow them outdoors from April to Sept. Indoors from March to April. I will be growing some to plant out for the summer cos they taste wonderful. Good to be able to put the GH to some use in the winter.I have put some beetroot in there too and that seems to be doing ok.

I had an oriental salad mix that stood as a hedge all the way through the winter!
