I sowed Marketmore for the first time this year and sowed them early (8th March). Now I'm a bit alarmed at how big they are getting- about 10" high with some leaves about 4" across. Have I started too early? Should I pot them up again- they are in 4" pots and are in the kitchen as I only have an unheated, draughty greenhouse. Also, should I pinch anything out or stake them?
Mine wilted when I put them in the unheated greenhouse 2 weeks ago. I re-potted all my cucumber plants into 4" pots just below the leaves, so now they are only 4" high. I have also put them back in the conservatory. My Ziena F1 died in the greenhouse along with 1 Carmen. My other Carmen is 6" high at present. All these plants are staked to maintain height with kebab skewers.
Who knows? I have not sown mine yet!
They do NOT like it cold, but if you cover with fleece at the slightest sign of frost, they will probably survive.
I have to repeat that I lost 30 Tomatoes (which are tougher) in the cold 'house in May!!
Last year, I sowed mine on April 18th, but that was earlier than usual as the weather was so mild. I think I might wait till next weekend. (A matter of logistics, as much as anything else - I haven't been able to move stuff out of the GH yet!)
(The guy who used to live next door to me always sowed his cucumbers on Christmas Day - in an unheated greenhouse! They never germinated before Easter!!)
ours are about 4" tall now :)
I lost some stuff last year and some other stuff just stood still. This year I'm leaving it later. Apart from that I haven't got the room in the Gh yet. Full of Chrysanths. Am going to start hardening the off this week so perhaps I will sow some things. If you sow a bit later they seem to catch the others up when the weather gets a bit warmer and the days get longer
