I know we have many seasoned travellors on this site, but if you had a choice to move to another country which one would it be. Personally for me it would be Western Australia(in the bush) about 220 miles S/E of Perth or a Colonial African country which these days we dont have the pleasure to administrate other than that the Greek Island of Simi :)
This one is easy for me.
Nepal, despite its problems, its a brilliant place and the people are so friendly.
I was there in 1991 recruiting for the Gurka Regiments,I could easily have stayed there....dont think my wife would have been imressed though ;D
County Cork Ireland or anywhere down the west of Ireland.
;D

St Lucia or Antigua in the caribbean
If I didn't have to work and money was no object I would buy one of the houses round Oulton Broad in Norfolk. Not as exotic as some of the other choices but to me it would be perfect. Garden leading to the broad with our own jetty for the boat, monster veggie patch I could spend all day tending (when I am not sailing) and some lovely pubs. Even better only 1 1/2 hours drive from everybody I care about. Perfect.
France - Vendee region, if it had to be abroad.
North Devon - my maternal home, if it had to be here.
Edinburgh, the Lake District or New Zealand.....I don't know which though....possibly Edinburgh and the Lake district are interchangeable as it would be easy to visit one from the other. Obviously I used to live in NZ and i also used to live close to Edinburgh and I spend my holidays in the Lake District.
Faced with a choice i'd find it difficult to choose.
I'll see you in Cork Gunnerbee, or Wicklow...................beautiful country............beautiful people ;D :D ;)
In one month I will be emigrating to NY State, up near the Canada border.
Without a job lined up, and just my house deposit to live on.
I must be mad.
Though I can buy a 4 bedroom house on an acre of land surrounded by woodland for $120,000.
Living in the South East, there's no chance of getting a one bed flat for that money.
Good luck with your move Paul. Keep in touch when you get to the US ;)
Well! from my pseudonym on this site it has to be 2 Larkshall, where I lived when working for the Forestry Commission in S.W. Norfolk. Sandy, well drained soil, warms up quickly. Everything grows well provided you feed it. One year we had an abundance of Rhubarb, we got a friend who was in the local camp to bring an Army Land Rover and we filled it for the cookhouse (they were fed up with tinned stuff). We had some broccoli the size of currant bushes (being a Forester, the previous tenant had fed them on tree fertiliser).
Really really happy where I am in Orgiva! The Alpujarra moutain range is stunning, the views from the roof are 360 mountains. The down side is the scorching summer :P! We went to Asturias and Galicia over Christmas and were knocked out by it over there, so when we move thats where we'll go!
I would love to spread myself between Varkala in Kerla India and anywhere in Donegal. I also really like Spain and Italy ;)
France. Brittany for OH but lower and warmer for me ;D

the north pole.
Anywhere, but anywhere out of the UK. Preferably Australia/New Zealand.

Portugal.............I have visited many times and I love it. :)
Canada (if they didn't speak french).
We have, in the past, considered moving to France or Greece and would have the opportunity to do so when my OH retires. However, we love this country and our family are here so we would really miss them if we lived abroad.
We have considered moving further west or even into Wales when the time comes to downsize.
Ideally I would have homes in a few countries so that I could enjoy sumer for longer.
An english summer I think (last year aside) is the best in the world - we have such variety. So would move to the Welsh/Shropshire borders and this is what we plan to do in the future. A small house with enough romm for my veg patch and garden - plus a few chooks. :)
To extend the summer though I'd have a house in the south of france for early autumn and very early spring. And having been to New England in the fall in the past - would have to have some time there in mid to late autumn for the tree colour. But also for the sledging and the snow at Christmas. It would be brilliant to be able to stock up on seeds from the US as well. Would have to see how to get them through customs. :o
From choice I would live in Scotland in the Dumfries area. but I can't get my husband to move out of the West Midlands.
Two of my sisters are living their dream in a remote part of Wales.
one breeds Arab horses , The other was a nurse in Selly oak hospital [B,ham] she was fed up with the abuse she had there .so moved to Wales where she is happy working at a horse sanctuary I am afraid I can only dream .
Bridgehouse
The Loire or the Dordogne in France... near enough to get back frequently.. but warm enough to grow aubergines outside!!
;D
Malta for the archaeology, prickly pears and lantana. And the lovely people too.

Thanks. I certainly plan to have a plot to keep me sane, we'll see how it goes.
The lack of home-growing culture is a bit of a worry. I can't seem to find any websites for american veg growers.
Does John Miller from Vermont still post on here? I think he's my only hope. :(
if yorkshire is made an independent state that will do and save me moving ::)
its taken long enough to get a plot as it is ;D
As my wife is from York I thought it was an independent state Longlad.
Paul... they have a great seed savers exchange network... google that or William Woys Weaver and see if there are any suitable links off those..
