Title: Sacks - Hessian or Paper???
Post by: Chantenay on July 21, 2004, 12:40:09
Advice please oh experienced ones.
I am expecting to have a decent potato harvest - mostly Desiree -  and I want them to last the longest possible time. The sacks will be in our unheated garage, which is dry, did not seem to be visited by small creatures last winter (but only parsnips and carrots last year), and only gets lit when the garage door is open.
Cost is not a serious issue, Marshalls seem to do the hessian.
Please explain the pro's and con's.

They both work - we leave the tops of paper ones o.p.e.n.i.s.h - without letting the light in. = Tim

Later - Can you believe it?? It took out the bit in between!! Hence the re-run.

Tim, the 'rude word checker' is nothing if not thorough!

I use paper sacks, because that is what I have.  Once I knew I was getting an allotment, I saved the sacks my spuds came in, gave them a good shake out, and there you go, recycling.  I guess one advantage of using hessian is the air can circulate better, I shall just have to monitor the situation and give them a good shake from time to time.
