Hi all!!
I'm in the process of leasing an allotment from the local council. Is this a good time of year to get an allotment? Is there anything that can be planted this time of year or is it just a case of preparing the ground etc for next spring?
Any advice would be most welcome!!
Thanx ???
No time just now - have look back at all the excellent advice on this subject. = Tim
Autumn is normally the 'ideal' time to get an allotment, but I've just taken on a new plot and am going to spend the rest of the year preparing the ground properly- I would suggest you put you energies into that, but if you do want to plant now, then have a look at Marshalls catalogue.
Plenty of stuff further back in 'basics' on this, but to start with french beans, salads, possibly some carrots, depending on problems with whitefly.
Good luck with it :)
A few more ideas -
Some winter brassicas can be sown in July; garlic in autumn; see if anybody around you has a few leek seedlings they've not got room for?
Good luck - Gavin
I reckon that one of the gurus should write this topic up in full & make a 'sticky' of it? Or put a link to it.
Meanwhile, Marshall's Autumn Catalogue is some help. = Tim
Hi all!!
Thanx for your advice. I'm looking forward to getting the plot within the next two weeks!!
Better get ready for all that weeding!!
:P
It is very exciting when you get your plot!
Don't forget fruit bushes/trees go in in Autumn.
I got my plot in mid-spring this year and am waiting until later in the year to put in an apple tree or maybe a plum tree.
Also I've got a packet of "overwintering" onion seeds. I think I saw "overwintering" onion sets in the Organic Garden catalogue (available from HYDRA).
Sarah.
Thanx all for your advice!!
