How many Butternut Squash do you get from one plant?
I have five seeds and I don't know if I should plant them all or not.
I've never grown them or even seen them growing, so as you've already guessed, I'M CLUELESS ::)

Plant them all. You don't know what problems might be in store. Remember the old saying: One for the mouse and one for the crow, one to rot and one to grow.
How many do you eat? The one's I normally grow gives me 2-6 squashes per plant...they do store well . I had my last one end of January so even if you use them all I don't think you are going to drown under them...plants grow quite big though. I grow a lot of pumpkins and squashes..and to keep them under control I keep "restricting" they growth by sticking canes around plants to guide the growth to circle around themselves ...
be prepared to allow loads of room to these monsters! depending on which variety you have they can grow to 6-7 metres long with several side shoots. As goodlife says, they can be trained round sticks or up a trellis etc to keep them manageable.
Again, depending on soil fertility, amount of sun etc you can get several per plant, the maximum ive had were 7 from one, some plants have given me nothing. If you give them plenty of muck, and full sun they will reward you.
I prefer my butternuts small so I never thin them...more fruit per plant smaller they are..
With smaller fruit I find that they do not set as many seeds as would larger ones..so you get more flesh, you can use small squash in one go.., and I find that as they have less soft pit (seed area) they store a bit better too, rotting often start from the pit...
But then again larger fruit tends to be sweeter...
If you have room, maybe you can grow several plants let some set freely for smaller fruit for storage and with some plants thin the fruits for 2 or 3 per plant and get some larger/sweet ones for roasting.... ;D

they will keep all winter if store well.
i grew 4 plants last year for me and
the wife,but run out very early.sowill
be growing 8plants this year.beween
