We have friends that are having their Son and Twin daughters Christened next month. (son 7, daughters 6 months)
Was thinking of pressies, when I thought about naming a star for them all.......now bearing in mind we do not have much dosh, and there are 3 of them, has anyone used a company that is reputable, because I have looked on the net and they could all be fake!
Oh and if anyone else can come up with inexpensive, individual Christening gifts, that they might actually use later on in life, for the kids that have everything, I would be most grateful! ( My kids have a boxfull of silver, never to be used, stuff in the loft, so was looking for something they would use forever..........I know I have nought from my christening that I know of!)
Thanks DP
Naming a star?..........I am out of touch, I have never heard of that DP. Sounds nice though, I will have a google later to see what you mean.
Its a difficult one, mine all have bits of silver tucked away in their lofts too. I'll have a think ;)
My son was recently baptised, and my sister bought a casting kit for his feet and hands, and then you can paint it gold if u so wish.
What was nice about the kit, that my daughter 11 could do hers too, as it has 3 castings you can do. So we have done one of her foot, and my 1 year olds foot with thier names underneath.
Its something I think any parent or child will treasure in later life.
When we lost my Great Niece (35) to cancer in 2003 one of her male friends asked my nephew if he would mind if he named a star after Lisa. If I can contact my nephew over the weekend will ask if he knows the name of the company that the friend used.
I'm afraid there's no such thing as a reputable company where naming stars is concerned. Only the discoverer of a star has the right to name it. All the companies that 'sell' naming rights are bogus. Pick a star, have it named, then I can go to a different company and have the same star given a different name. It's a symbolic gift only.
Could you buy them somethong that might start of a collection, especially if they are children you would buy regular pressies for.
Cherished Teddies have a lovely selection of little bear ornaments , each has a name , they have them to commemerate birth, birthdays, families etc. They look lovely in a childs room and many adults collect them.
I could be biased as I have loads of them.
For my recent grandadaughter I have purchased some collectors plates from a specific artist that does pictures of children so I can add to it. I have also bought a couple of pieces of expensive dinner china that I will continue to add to so there is a complete set when she is of age.

:-\ How about planting a tree?? found a few sites such as: -

The carbonneutral plant-a-tree scheme particularly interests me personally and I think I may consider this regarding gifts myself.
Another idea maybe would be to adopt an animal, organisations that do this are WWF or Born Free, etc......

Photo frame, silver if you like. Can be used now for child/baby photos, then the recipient can put whatever they like in it when old enough to choose. A gift that will be useful the whole of life.
Of course if you'd planned ahead you could have hybridised some veg and named a new variety after them but I guess that's not that helpful at this stage. ;D
Doris, how about premium bonds you do not have to spend a lot of money , but they could win a lot of money, Just a thought. ;D
we got callum premium bonds but it's 100.00 minimum now :)
You would have to give the money anyway, as only parents & grandparents are allowed to buy bonds on behalf of a child. (Unless that's changed.)
