Title: cheap cold frames
Post by: Ant on April 04, 2008, 17:42:00
are not always such a good idea...

We recently acquired a coldframe from our local DIY Shed for free (not my fault the till monkey didn't bother scanning it and I sure as heck wasn't telling them).

Anyway, today I decided to put it together.
We already have one coldframe, all aluminium and very solid. This pretender is plastic.

So I started assembling it and noticed it didn't actually have a base part, or sides for that matter... it relies on the plastic corner bits holding it all together. Of course, whilst putting one corner together the opposite corner pops free as its not rigid.

So I get it almost assembled and it fell apart... cursed a bit
Got the base together and stood up to get the lid... the wind blew slightly stronger than a mouses fart, and it fell apart... cursed a bit more
Put it back together and went to put the lid section on hoping that would introduce some solidity...

It fell apart...

Cursed a lot and kicked it across the garden  >:(

I've calmed down now  :)

Star, glad it cheered you up  :) Sparkly was offering such gems as "kicking it won't help"  ;D

the thing is, whilst it was half the price of the all aluminium one, its not half as good... it's completely useless.

Anywhere non-sheltered and it would blow away or collapse in the first hint of a breeze.

I was more annoyed at the fact that people would part with their pennies for something so useless.

I am tempted to get some timber and make a proper wood frame for it.

Thats a good plan, it will stand up to the mouses fart that way. ;D

I dont usually laugh at peeps downfalls, but you do have a way of putting it that makes it very comical ;)

Good luck with plan B :)

If I didn't want to make people laugh, I wouldn't have posted it, or certainly not in the way I did...  ;D
