If anyone is interested in Ospreys, there is a really good webcam of a nest in Scotland. Even has sound so you can hear the activity, albeit a bit loud sometimes :o I watched it last year and followed it though to the laying of the eggs to the chicks fledging. The diary is really interesting and well written.

I forgot to say, click the webcam with the photo of the Osprey ;D
They are such majestic birds, its lovely to see them wild and free ;)
The female has laid her first egg at 4.10 this morning ;D Dont if she has laid anymore as she is in the nest at the moment :D
We are in for an interesting few weeks now, let's hope that egg is the first of a few as last year there were three and only two survived. In any event, she has set somewhat of a record, laying her 50th egg :D
Slightly off thread but you can also watch the peregrine falcons at Derby Cathedral. She is sat on some eggs at present and there is quite a developed website.

There is also a webcam viewing the falcons at Lincoln Cathedral but it is impossible to find a link to it.

I don't think it is operating yet - when it is, it should be available via the RSPB as it is their webcams - which I hope doesn't mean it is going to be refreshed periodically like a lot of theirs.

She now has two.
Rats I was going to recommend the Derby Web Cam...
;D
The female has now laid her third egg. Let's hope they all survive this year.
Yes, fingers crossed. I will be up there this summer to have a look at them. Annual visit to that Osprey nest. I have enjoyed watching her on the web cam, thanks for the link.
;)
Thanks for the Osprey link - I'm not very good with birds to had to work out which one it was :-\
Blimey, it's windy up there today. I'm off up to the Borders this evening & have been instructed to bring warm clothes. Roll on summer!

Oh, how lovely! Me and OH have so many cams going at nest time, now we have another, LOL Thanks, GG ;D
The webcam link is great.
A few years ago I was working at Lochwinnoch at the Muirshiel Hen Harrier site, watching the cam and keeping notes. It was great and all was going well till one morning all the chicks got taken by a fox and I had to watch it on the camera unable to help. I know its all part of nature etc but I must admit my sympathies for foxes stopped that day. Its strange how you get attached even via a camera.
heres a link to some footage...

Fab clips of the hen harriers sawfish, thanks for that. Shame they are so vunerable on the ground though. Must have been awful for you seeing the fox take the chicks. At least the ospreys stand a better chance of survival.
well this is the problem, we seem so concerned about protecting the fox because we see them skipping around our streets with their cute cubs but we dont think about the consequences of their growing numbers.
Hen harriers are down to 1 pair in 2005 from 10 pairs in 1996 at Muirshiel, at least thats what it was 3 years ago and that was the pair who's chicks were taken. Maybe its 0 now, I'll have to find out.
Luckily the numbers are a bit higher in the northern isles. Why? No foxes.
I love ospreys too, they're very odd in that they're a breed of their own. You dont get varieties of osprey just slight differences in the same type of bird all over the world, for example the ones in scandinavia are slightly bigger than ours.
ps.
I am in no way a fan or supporter of fox hunting!

Me neither sawfish :-X :-X
Bringing this to the top cos the chicks could hatch soon.
;D
Thanks Carol :) The nest has been quite busy lately in preparation for the new arrivals. The female I have noticed has been extra noisy and demanding. I did not see it but apparently the male gave her a real ticking off a while back ::) ;D Hope all three survive this year.
Yes hope so Pat. Depends if he brings enough fish for them all. I will get up there once the chicks have hatched.
;)
Parents have just swapped places and one of the eggs has a small hole in it :D
ONE HAS HATCHED ;D ;D
;D This Chick is her 50th. The BBC Cameras have been up here and reporting the event on the News. One famous Lady Osprey. Hope No. 51 and 52 make it as well.
;D ;D
Just bumping it up cos I watch it.
;)
It is a great webcam. On southern counties radio the other day a bloke rang in and said his wife said the best gift she ever got was a birdcam nest box. Gave me an idea!
Googled and decided to get mother in law and early gift for her birthday, just set it up tonight, atached nestbox to fence and farted about with the cable through the wall and got a cheap telly from tesco and hey presto! A nestbox cam!
She was chuffed. despite going to bed at 0230 cos playing on the boat and having to get up at 0630! I managed to set it up when I finished work.
Just waiting now for something to go in it! ;D
With thew tv and box and cam etc it cost about 120 which is quite a lot but some of the prices on the net were horrendous!
We bought from handykam which were by far the cheapest we could find.
also watching all the springwatch cams on line and the rspb osprey one.
What nice son-in-law you are Andy :) I hope the birds start to use the box soon after all your efforts.
The Osprey cam is great but a pity that only one chick has hatched. Have you seen the USA Osprey nestcam, not a patch on the SWT one. It is on the same page near the bottom.
Osprey cam has 3 chicks?
Wife and M-in-L keep flicking the telly on to check if anything in the box.
Came back today and said smile if you have looked at the cam today!!!!!!
Big grin......
I was at the RSPB site at Boat of Garten on Tuesday and watched the Ospreys. 3 chicks have hatched and thriving. Springwatch is filming up there as most of you will know. I was pleased to see laods of Red Squirrels as well. I had hoped to see the Crossbills but none had been spotted that morning. Its a wonderful area for wildlife. ;) ;)
Lock garten at the abernethy forest in scotland has an osprey web cam. Fantastic. If ever anyof get the chance to visit its maggical. Just out side avimore
Jasmine
Yes, Jasmine, that is where I visited on Tuesday morning.
;)
