has anyone grown these before and what are they like please
I had some black russian (not plum). Had them outside as my gardens a bit of a suntrap and have others that do very well outside but they were really slow and didnt even get to ripen :(. It was pretty rubbish outside last year wasnt it? I did give two to a friend and she had hers in the greenhouse. They ripened fully and she was very pleased with them. Suppose this doesnt really help much but thought id tell you anyway ;D.
I did grow black Russian in the greenhouse a year or two back they were not to bad nice eating but did go over quickly and split. Never did try them out side. But give them a try you may like them.
I've grown, black prince/russian and black plum, both yummy!
I have it on good authority that Black Russian are a great bottling tomato. Growing them myself this year for the first time.
I have grown Purple Russian and Black Russian they are different in some things but similar in other
Purple Russian is a purple black it is a plum weighing 6 ounces excellent for raw eating but good for canning , sauces and paste,, beautiful clear unblemished fruit, very productive. ID vine
Black Russian is a mahogony colour is a much smaller tomato a plum shaped cherry type, again it has excellent flavour and is good for sauces ans or pastes but not really suitable for canning as the fruit is a tad too small. Black Russian thinner walls thaan Purple Rusian ID vine
