Title: Planting tomatoes
Post by: gardening-gal on March 30, 2008, 18:22:51
Every year we grow tomatoes in pots and they never seem to do that brilliantly.
I was wondering about planting some tomatoes down on the allotment in the ground my only concern is it is quite exposed to the wind, do you think they will be okay if I stake them well.

our allotment is exposed too and toms do fine. You just have a bigger chance of blight if it's one of those years, like last year, and if you don't go to the allotment every few days, you'll have lots of big side-shoots to deal with

You need very early varieties, and they're susceptible to blight. I get it every year, usually in late summer or the beginning of autumn when the crop is finishing anyway.
