Title: Wanted Herb Seeds
Post by: caseylee on March 25, 2008, 17:51:09
I am looking to grow a herb garden at my lottie, and would love to try all different types like sage, different basil, and things like that.  I am happy to swap for any seeds I may have that you would like.
Thank you
Linda

I think I have a few herb seeds (basil, borae, chives, parsely etc), but can also probably send you a rooted rosemary cutting if you want, may have some rooted thyme as well - not sure how the thyme have taken.

Let me know if you want any of these.

I'm planning something similar myself when the weather is up to it!  Got a few packets of more unusual things I could split for you:  They are suffolk herb seeds:- Lemon Balm, Wild Bergamot, Green Fennel and Chervil.

PM me if you want some of any of them.

I can also recommend a trip to Woolworths if you have one close by - they do a value pack of 6 small herb seed packets - chives, thyme, coriander, sweet basil, parsley and dill.  Only 97p :) :)

Another good tip:  If you are buying fresh herbs for cooking, you can take cuttings from fresh thyme, rosemary and mint very easily.  I think its also possible from Sage as well.

Simply add some grit to compost (about 1/4) and keep it damp but not too wet.  Cut the stems at an angle, take of most of the leaves and push into the soil.  If you have it, use rooting powder, but I have managed quite well without it and had good success.  It works quite well at this time of year.

Not sure it counts as a herb, but I have some lemon grass growing here that I could attempt to take a cutting of for you?
