Title: LabLab Beans (Hyacinth Bean) and Pea Beans
Post by: sawfish on March 25, 2008, 17:33:45
I got some of these from Pennard Plants because they seemed quite interesting.

Does anyone have any experience of them? I want to know what they look like, when to sow etc and if they'll die in the Glasgow area?

I got nowhere with the Lab Labs here... but might do OK in a poly in a good season. Pea beans did OK here in Derby..
;D

In Glasgow, you will need to grow Lab lab beans in a greenhouse to get any worthwhile crop. Sow next month in heat and plant out in greenhouse in May. They are climbers and will get to the top of the greenhouse.
There are various varieties of peabeans, but I would just treat them as you would for other types of peas.
