Title: Moodys Died
Post by: Philbasford on March 24, 2008, 08:03:09
our big cuddly sussex pyde chicken had died suddenly this morning :'(.  she was such a big lively chicken, with a hugh amount of feathers and loved her food, espcially treats.  she was the picture of health yesterday and had been running about , laid an egg and i had brought her inside for cuddles.  She was really funny to watch run as she would wobble from side to side.

She was about  15 months old so just a young girl.

Is the any reason why this might have happened ?,  We  are not having any tests done , so we have found a nice place in the garden and burried here.  What a sad way to  start the day.

Phil

Hello Phil, sorry for your loss  :(

was there any symptoms before she went... ie a change in behaviour, lethargy or anything else?

oh Phil that's really sad, it's always awful to lose a pet that is part of the family.

SnooziSuzi: no nothing at all , she went to bed as normal, had her usual day of running round the garden, so it was all very sudden

If none of the other chooks are showing any signs of distress then it's probably heart attack or similar.

I'd check the rest of the flock to see if they're all ok (ie no dirty bums, check their eyes to see if there's any marks in them, smell thier breath for malodour, check for runny noses, wheeziness etc).  If they all are ok then it's probably a very sad one off, but if any of the others are showing any odd signs then I'd get them to the vets.

Watch out for treats some hens process them better than others sunflower seeds are leathal for some hens in large quanties.
