Title: Music question (for biscome?)
Post by: kitten on March 23, 2008, 12:19:23
Following debster's thread about her exams, it's made me think about the best way to learn bass guitar.

I was planning on teaching myself from books & dvds etc but now i'm wondering about having lessons instead?

Also, where should i look for a local teacher? Any website recommendations?

Thanks in advance x

Brilliant Kitten! I'm learning the Bass too!

I can't help you with a teacher, just look for one that has lots of experience, my best teachers are in bands.
Also look or ask in music shops for teachers.

There are lots of great on line lessons/material

This is great! http://www.fenderplayersclub.com/woodshed/bass/bass.htm

The rock school books are great too and have a CD that you can follow, pricey but worth it!

Hey A4a band soon eh!!

Hope that helps Kitten  :-* good luck and good on you  ;D

Thanks both, that's really helpful!

I've checked out the site you've suggested Mick and there's a bass teacher in a village not too far from here which is great, he does a free half hour lesson to see if we get on which sounds cool too.  He doesn't have any quals tho which concerned me a bit, but he does have lots of band experience, so thanks for your comment biscombe, it's put my mind at rest a bit!

The fender players club website is awesome, if the football wasn't on tv i'd be plugging in right now!

I've actually bought a book with cd & dvd already, i think it was called Alternative Bass - any idea if it's any good?

An A4A band sounds like an excellent idea lol!

Thanks again! x
