I collect original Venetian Masks. It started when my parents brought me one back from Venice about twenty years ago. Each time they went away to Italy, they'd bring me back another. On special occasions my husband has one made for me. Mine are all originals (none of that horrid UK seaside rubbish, lol) I have some real stunners, very beautiful. I keep saying I will take some pictures but I never seem to get around to it.

Debts and grudges.
Collected stamps as a youngster, now save all those plastic cards - bank cards, loyalty cards, AA cards rather than cutting them up. There's got to be a use for them, just not worked it out yet ::) Do seeds and dust too!

It used to be match boxes, and then it was piggies. But now it is book mark's of places I visited, and I also have a very soft spot for antique garden tools.
Wine bottles for wine making, jars for preserves and movies, I'm a sucker for a good film!
As a kid I collected:
Whimsies
Matchboxes
Bookmarks
sold all of them and started collecting again in my teens:
Prinknash pottery - had over 500 pieces, and one day my shelves collapsed! lost over 450 pieces in less than a minute, so sold the rest!
In my 30s started collecting:
Guinness memorabilia
Polar Bears - not real ones!
VW Camper - models and pictures
Thunderbirds stuff
Mr Potato Heads!!
Now in my 40s I want to start collecting:
Face Pots - ie. little pots for beetroot etc. in the shapes of the fruit
Kitchenalia enamelware
That'll probably do for now! :o
Old and new £5, £10, £20, £50 notes ;D ;D ;D
The other collection (obsession) I have is knitting/crocheting yarn.
valmarg
Coloured glass, especially blue glass.
Don't really collect but I can't part with my hardback books so suppose that is a collection. Late husband collected JUNK wouldn't throw out anything ;D
I have hundreds - nay thousands! - of books, CDs, DVDs, videos (gradually being replaced with DVDs), lots of pretty china and crystal, (including some of that beautiful red Murano glass). I don't really collect them: I've just bought stuff over the years when I could afford it and liked it. To be honest it's the books that matter most. Old friends full of memories and associations.
mmm, when you put it like that, Grawc, I must collect books, I have some I read over and over..plus some that were bought for me..so, books ;D
oh, and I have pitures and cards I received when we were married, when we had the children, pictures and things they made me, now started on my grandchildren's masterpieces, can't throw them out, and letters and cards from Ray..wow, I'm a hoarder ;D
I'm a real bibliophile too. :)
I used to collect blue and white china, and horses (figures of them, not the real thing, sadly). Then I had a bit of a clearout, and now I try to collect empty spaces on my shelves and surfaces. Unfortunately I seem to be not as good at that as I was at filling the spaces. :)
I too collect books especially cookery and gardening books!
I also collect jam jars (you never know when they come in handy!) and seeds (especially heritage beans and peas)
barkingdog
Books, seeds and Toy Soldiers... tried to collect money but didn't manage it!
::)
'cos you keep spending it on books, seds and toy soldiers, saddad ;D
I'll admit to books (about 4,000) and seeds (er, quite a few...) too, also would collect comtemporary ceramics if I could afford to, make do with one 'Own Art' purchase a year......
I collect old 50's, 60's and 70's stuff (crockery, furniture, kitchenware, cruet sets, old jars and containers). My flat is a homage to the 60's and always has been.
Also old bikes, old cameras, old watches, old gardening books, singles and LP's.
I also collect grey hairs, I have thousands now.
I only collect empty beer bottles for my new home brew hobbie ;)
used to collect American Comics. I've got DC comics back to 1959, and Marvel Comics back to 1961. Maybe Daredevil No 1 is the most valuable, but i've never checked
I guess the latest thing that I collect is garden birds, if I see a different species I couldnt be more thrilled.

Ooooh JVO, we could really give poor betula the heeby-jeebies between us ;D
LOL some of my buttons are well sinister LOL
I suppose we could scan knitting patterns and put into a folder and email to each other as a swap, no postage costs? If someone wants babies, or girls or boys or whatever? Then they can download and print off?
Now actually............I am due to be a great aunt, twice in the space of a few weeks in the summertime. And I have no baby patterns any more. That suggestion JVO and Valmarg is brilliant.
So if its ok to play?? :D
I collect anything useful, jars etc, drives the other half mad!!
Im sure i must have been a rag n bone woman in a previous life!!

I have tons of baby patterns and loads of shawl patterns, my favourites are the Shetland ones done in 1ply cobweb pure wool but I have 3/4 and some double kniting ones too.
Same with my baby patterns, I prefer 2 and 3 ply wool but I have 4ply and double knit too.
I might have an access of needles too if anyone is without and wants a go.
now back to collecting
XX Jeannine
Seeing EJ's post about glass - also collect little bits of broken glass from the plots as they surface, with a view to making my plot number signs out of them. (A bit of guidance as to plastic type resin to glue them together would be welcome ???)
I collect music.
Love it :D
I will get my scanner set up and do some knitting patterns and maybe some cross-stitch charts. Once I have done some I will put a swap notice up. I have loads of babies patterns and I have shawls as well.
oh i wish i could knit! mum tryed to teach me as child but i had no patience! i love crochet too.. im pretty good on a sewing machine though! i like fabrics and collect patchwork pieces etc!
One of my obsessions is collecting Hornsea and Eastgate pottery. Well it was until I ran out of shelves and they became popular and hence expensive.
eastgatenhornsea.com (http://eastgatenhornsea.com)
Hi all, :)
QuoteI have a phobia about buttons,if I see some in a tin they give me a horrible feeling.
I have that one, and my sister does too. It goes back to a tin that lurked in the back of a kitchen cupboard when we were kids. Buttons but also needles and pins and stuff we were warned to stay away from !!!
Most of us have a phobia or two. I think our fears and the fears of others should be respected. I dispose of corpses of dead birds at work because the site manager can`t go near them. I used to need help on my plots with rodents and rodent corpses but if you`ve read my contibutions every time rats are mentioned on the forum you`ll see I got over that.
I collect mugs from places I`ve been and T-shirts that show I overcame my fears and went on collercoasters and scary rides. If I go on a ride I want a T-shirt to prove it.

Oh Gunnerbee, I am a quiltaholic...maybe we should do a quilt block swap!! I have quilts all over the house, the dogs have qulits too.
You said you collect patwork pieces ,do you turn them into things?
XX Jeannine
Soft toys-`Animalia` will soon be 24years old and I still make up stories ;D
And cookery books
A neighbor died. His daughter was faced with cleaning out everything he saved. And she verbalized all her frustration of him leaving her with his mess- which was a whole basement full of boxes.
Listening to that changed my mindset about saving stuff so I'm currently trying to get rid of things (which goes against the grain, believe me! Lots of back-sliding!) Trying to go room-by-room.
I was at a friend's house for a meeting once. She'd sorted through one room and put all the bits and pieces she didn't want in a pile then invited everyone on their way out to help themselves if something caught their fancy. She was delighted to hear what people found as useful to them. :)
Not a daft idea. To some extent I've had to do that in that I had to "empty" 3 rooms for the decorators. A chance to review, reorganise and recycle. Lots to Freecycle and charity shops. Lots still waiting to be done. Having some bits of the house pretty clear I've decided I quite like minimalist. It's restful. What I am keeping either goes behind closed doors or in what my son likes to call "the library". If I could afford anything other than Ikea the books would be behind closed doors too. And yes I know Ikea do doors, but they don't seem to keep the dust out so defeat the purpose really.
Eristic I have the Martin Hunt Hornsea Concept teaset which I really love. the design is fabulous and has been much admired. I'm certainly not parting with that!
I collect rubbish so my OH says, i believe it all to be my treasures!

I have a bag full of buttons that belonged to my grandmother who died in 1957. She had collected them over the years and they always came in handy when her grandchildren came to visit. She would get them out for us to play with. It is interesting looking through them.
I also collect iris plants, jars and postage stamps.
My kids learnt colours and counting from my mother's button box!

My husband had this one made for me the Christmas before last. It's so beautiful and elegant. It's about 9-10 inches high and takes pride in the middle of my collection. I will take some snaps of my other favourites another day.

You will be getting another one next year all being well.
Empty wine bottles...... hic ;D !!
That's beautiful Sam, altho the old man wouldn't like it as he isn't keen on masks...funny how some people are like that, with clowns also. Me, I think it is beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeutiful!
Couldn't resist showing you this. :) busy_lizzie
In case you couldn't see properly. The last post is my whisk collection, I have 80 kitchen whisks in all. busy_lizzie
I love the whisks busy_lizzie, I had a lovely one but my girlfriend burnt the handle on the grill >:(
After 15 years of marriage, my OH is asking hard questions about all the stuff I KNOW will be useful in due course down at Lok'n'Store (books, mags etc).
Reluctantly I'm coming to accept that some folk just don't get it!
A.
i thought i was the only button phobic, i feel so much less stupid now lol
i collect posy vases, shoes (very nice designer ones, its a small collection)
& cookery books
i collect carved wooden objects such as heads,or unusal carved tables.
also collect script books, i have the script books to most british comedys.
and looking around the room it seems i m also collecting dust ;D
Jeannine, yes i made a patchwork, but a square piece one! easier to sew, but the hand stiched octagonal ones take ages!! too impatient!!
those masks are o.k, appreciate the work that goes into them, but are too sinister looking to have in my house!!
I don't do the octagon English paper piecing but I do a great many other shapes than square on the machine.XX Jeannine
I have collect plastic cards for the 15 years and have a huge collection, the best is that it takes up so little room. It was great this Christmas all the major shops had a selection as gift cards so managed to collect more that 50 of those.
Early phone cards are the most usual.
Do not do clutter so very little else OH except little PIGS must be under 1/2 inch in high and length. Have got about 120 of those and again take up very little space.
I like anything to do with monkeys (any species) and have loads of ornaments, clocks, candles and even a table (gorilla holding a table top up on its head and hand!). One clock I have is like a cuckoo clock wit a monkey that pops out on the hour!
Also collect robertsons golly badges - Jeannine do you collect the golly toys or badges?
Started collecting royal mugs, but got bored after I got about 15 of them - still have them but do nowt with them.
Also collected souvenir spoons as a child, people would buy me one wherever they visited, and I have over 200 at the last count. Again though, as I ran out of space to display them, I gave up and they are now in the back of a cupboard!
Guess the only thing I display all the time are the monkey things.
Hi Shelle, I have a few badges . We have a Rupert room where the Gollies live with Rupert.
Gollie wise we have , a complete band, books, bookends, soap, cushions, slippers, vaious figurines, tins, plates, ect act and about 100 or so stuffed gollies.
Rupert dominates as he has the room with curtain, sheets, annuals going back to 1941 (still working on that) clock, collector plates, soap, talc, sheets, duvetcover, pillow cases about 40 stuffed Ruperts, Doulton figiuines, knitwear I have made, cars, sqeaky toys,, silk tie, scarf, PJ, a one off appliqed quilt that I made with a matching pillow sham and wall hanging, doulton, cup, bowl eggcup etc, games, puppets, rug, bookend, money boxes ++++ you get the picture.
The Rupert stuff is Johns, the gollie stuff is mine but as you know they are often together so they are room mates.
XX Jeannine
Wow :o That is one heck of a collection! I made a decision early on not to expand and to only collect golly badges, even though there are lots of other golly stuff around. At least badges are small enough to store ;)
Like the idea of your Rupert room though ;D
I'll get John to get a couple of pictures XX Jeannine

Ooooh, expensive tastes ;D
